Women in Leadership: Empowering Voices, Inspiring Change

On 21 November 2024, in collaboration with the University of Canberra and the Embassy of Ecuador in Australia, ALELD hosted Women in Leadership: Empowering Voices, Inspiring Change. Held at the University of Canberra, this panel discussion brought together over 70 individuals from diverse cultures to connect, learn and celebrate leadership in its many forms.

The event was expertly organised and moderated by Mariana Marcano, ALELD’s Director of Diplomacy, supported by Diplomacy Officer, Andrea Tovar and Events Officer, Patricia Montecinos.

Panellists Her Excellency Dianela Pi, Sandra Martinez GAICD, Dr Erin Watson, and Kim Prior shared valuable insights and personal reflections on leadership:

  • Do your best, the rest will come. Trust in your efforts and know that the outcomes will follow.

  • Step back when needed. Empower others to grow by delegating and unlearning old habits.

  • Listen to your body. Self-care is critical for long-term, sustainable leadership.

  • Respect is essential. It’s the foundation of trust and collaboration in leadership.

  • The journey is not linear. Embrace the highs and lows with resilience.

  • Learn the power of saying no. Protect your priorities and focus on what matters most.

  • Follow your superpowers. Embrace your unique strengths to lead with purpose.

A standout moment of the event was the launch of our Mentorship Program, where 12 inspiring mentors committed their time and expertise to guide attendees, offering mentorship that can transform careers and drive lasting impact.

This event exemplified what ALELD stands for: creating spaces for meaningful connections, fostering inclusive leadership, and building supportive networks. The event was made possible by the dedication and collaboration of many individuals, proving that powerful outcomes are achievable even without financial resources when a shared vision drives us.

ALELD is incredibly proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who contributed to its success, particularly our volunteers Andrea Tovar Rojas, Patricia Montecinos, Karin Zapata, Sam Bissett, and Carmen Holman.

ALELD continues creating inclusive leadership communities that inspire and empower individuals. We look forward to more impactful events like this in the future, and to seeing the continued growth of the leaders of tomorrow.
