Queensland is Australia’s third most populated state, with almost 5.2 million people calling it home. Sharing borders with New South Wales, the Northern Territory and South Australia, Queensland is the most decentralised mainland state, with only 49% of the population living in the capital city.
Queensland is home to many iconic tourist destinations including the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world, stretching for 2,300 kilometres. The lagoon is well known for Heart Reef, a natural heart-shaped coral formation.
The economy of Queensland comprises a range of industries including manufacturing, construction, mining and tourism. In 2019-20, mining made up 11.7% of the Queensland economy, totalling $39.6 billion. The agriculture sector in Queensland produces $12.9 billion in gross value to the economy, which is 21% of Australia’s agricultural output.
